Linda J. Van Arkel-Greubel President's Letter

Greetings From the Tulsa Estate Planning Forum President!

It is my honor to serve as the 48th president of the Tulsa Estate Planning Forum. The Tulsa Estate Planning Forum was established in 1975 and we have been going strong for almost 50 years. We are looking forward to another great year with incredible speakers coming to Tulsa to educate us on current estate planning topics and with lots of networking opportunities. I hope you will renew your membership and encourage other estate planning professionals to join as a member.

Many thanks to our current board members who have been hard at work this summer to put together a great lineup of speakers. Attached is a list of our speakers for the 2023-2024 year. We will start out the year on September 11 with Mike Neal, Tulsa Chamber of Commerce President, speaking to us about Tulsa‘s Recent Successes and Future Wins. In October, Eido Walny, Attorney with Walny Law, the NAEPC Estate Planning Journal Editor-in-Chief, will speak to us about “The Top Ten Estate Planning Lessons Learned from Recently Deceased Celebrities.”  Chris Hoyt, Attorney with the University of Missouri Kansas  City Law School, will finish our 2023 year with an update on Secure 2.0.

After our holiday break, we will come back in January 2024 for an economic update from Marshall Bartlett, Chief Economist with Argent, followed by  presentations from Heritage Auction, Curtis Shacklett and Stephanie Mitchell with Barber and Bartz about Special Needs Trusts, and Jennifer Krieg, Vice President, and General Counsel with Reagan Smith, with an Indian law update. Our Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, and will feature Paul Lee with Northern Trust.

Our 2023 meetings along with our January, February and March 2024 meetings will continue to be lunch meetings held at the Downtown Double Tree Hotel. For our April and May meetings we will return to the Summit Club. We will not offer the Zoom option this year and hope everyone can attend in person.

Our board is also working on special events for our young professionals as well as the April social to celebrate completion of tax season. We are also working on new special events in connection with National Estate Planning Awareness Week October 16 – 22 2023, and a special breakfast in December  sponsored by our past-presidents. Stay tuned for more details on these new special events.

I would be remiss if I did not show appreciation  to our website and business sponsors and the annual meeting sponsors, all who provide generous sponsorships that allow us to offer great speakers and  special events while keeping our dues to a minimum. A big thank you to all of our sponsors. Please be sure to thank our sponsors when you see them at our meetings.

I also appreciate all of our members. Because of you, the Tulsa Estate Planning Forum has remained a strong organization for almost 50 years. Thank you for supporting the Tulsa Estate Planning Forum and attending our lunches. We look forward to 50 more years together. Please help us to stay strong and to grow by renewing your membership and encouraging other professionals to join the Tulsa Estate Planning Forum. The benefits we receive are numerous and invaluable.

There are also plenty of  opportunities to become more engaged with the Tulsa Estate Planning Forum through committee involvement. If you are interested, please contact me at (918) 384-2897 or lvanarkelgreubel@arvest.com or you can contact any board member as well.

I look forward to seeing everyone at our first meeting on September 11, 2023. Until then, please enjoy the rest of your summer.

Sincerely,

Linda J. Van Arkel-Greubel
